We arrived to Tim and Jess's and they had ordered us yummy Chinese food. It was so fun to see Elisabeth and Tim and Jess and their sweet doggo Misaaaaa. Tim is an old friend from New Orleans that just recently moved to Pittsburgh with his partner Jess, so Elisabeth had come to visit them in their new abode and to sing some songs with us for the show. We all ate and caught up and were on our merry way to the venue.
The Thunderbird Music Hall is a three story funky shaped venue with a nice big stage and awesome sound. We had a lovely green room bathroom 3-part harmony singing session so that we could last-minute arrange some of the harmonies Matt and Elisabeth sing. They sounded awesome, and even better when we sound checked.
The place filled up quickly, and we had a fun greenroom hang with the band. Elisabeth and I were getting dressed in the bathroom and she kept saying 'omg my arms are so muscular what the heck, is that really what they look like?' And I was like 'no they look normal what are you talking about?' Then we get out of the bathroom and Andrew goes, "Elisabeth you been hittin' the gym?? You're arms look huge!"
We had a really nice time on stage, with a very welcoming attentive audience. There were still people arriving throughout the set, so there was a calm chatter in the back, but the blue lighting was serene, the sound was great and Elisabeth's harmonies were magical. I did completely mess up the first song, and sang the last verse first, completely skipped two verses, and sang the last verse again. It was pretty chaotic and shortened the song significantly but people seemed to like it and I didn't think much of it.
When Elisabeth and I sang Gold together, people started cheering after the third verse because they were so into the sisterly harmonic sounds I believe. It was very sweet, and we really felt welcomed by the beautiful people of Pittsburgh.
Pokey LaFarge really put on a show that night and showed us what an amazing performer he truly is. It was awesome to watch from the merch table and be able to see everything, unlike the night before. All the musicians in the band are top notch, and the music is so fun to move to. The audience seemingly adored every moment of it, and we had some sweet merch table interactions during and after his set.
A lovely evening hang back at Tim and Jess's, where they had prepared all these delicious snacks for us, and then to bed !
Today we did so much in Pittsburgh! We got coffee around the corner and hung for a long while discussing sex cults and politics and then went on a long walk all around the neighborhood, up steep stairs and down even steeper ones. Then we packed up and all drove to a record store - The Government Center - and bought some good records, tapes + coffee. This record store is a bar, coffee shop, small rock club and also sells all forms of music. Super cool. I talked to Josh behind the counter and gave him a CD and sticker to keep us in mind for future records to sell and he seemed super into it. Then we went to the Duquesne Incline, which is a very steep rail car that you can ride up and down to see a very nice view of the whole city of Pittsburgh. It was quite thrilling and a very silly time.
Now we are on our way to Cleveland, where we will play tonight !
