Pokey LaFarge Tour hath begun

Hello there! We are back! Elisabeth is not with us yet.. but she will be joining us in Pittsburgh tomorrow for a few days! Let's not get ahead of ourselves though...

Dave and I left Warren, ME on Monday afternoon and made the drive to NYC, where we stayed with our dear friend Rachel Carrol in her brand new apartment in Brooklyn. We had some wine and pasta and Maddie Bone came over and joined the sweet hang. We went to bed somewhat later than we expected, but it was just so good to see these lovely friends!

We rose early the next morning to move our car just in time not to get ticketed, and drove over to the practice space that Maddie's friend Austin was going to let us use for the next couple days (Sooo generous, Austin we owe you!!). Matt Gaydar (our new bass player!) pulled up not too long after. Matt lives in the Hudson Valley and has played with us before, so we were happy he was down to play bass with us for this tour. Unfortunately Dan cannot join until Hamden, CT!
As most of you know, a bass player is a rare occasion for us, so we were psyched to hear what the low end was going to add. Turns out, a lot! All the songs sounded great, and Matt had them dialed. Professional! Even knew all the lyrics. I was very impressed. We had a productive rehearsal, Dave and I got Indian Food, and went back to Rachel's where we proceeded to watch two episodes of Love Island. It was wonderful.
That night we met up with Colin and had a lovely night out at Lunatico seeing Katie Martuchi's band shred and drinking too many delicious egg white cocktails.
Next morning we had another rehearsal, got Pho with Rachel, watched more Love Island and loaded into the sweet Owl Music Parlor, which is right around the corner from Rachel's apartment. Oran, who is the Owl Parlor owner, is a quirky, passionate venue owner, who does everything from mopping the floor, to sound engineering to booking every single show. The other bands arrived, followed by all the wonderful friends who came out, and the show was a success. Rams Montero played first, Diamond Grinder second and us last. It was a full house the whole time, with a slightly rotating crowd for each set. It is a very intimate space, and we were all a little nervous to test out this new trio sound, but the audience was very attentive and sweet and Matt nailed every note and almost every lyric! I especially love how both Benny & Alice sound with a bass, and Matt is really good at the harmony on Gold. We went back to Rachel's and had a short hang with friends and went to sleep.
Left early the next day and drove to Fairmont, WV where we found a pleasant Hampton Inn to stay in. Ate at a mediocre diner, had a brief chilly swim in the pool where we learned Matt used to be on the swim team (he showed us how to do the Butterfly), watched some more Love Island and went to bed.
Today we stopped in Charleston, WV and Dave bought some new pants and got them tailored on the spot. They are VERY cool and he can't wait to wear them tonight at our show in Lexington, KY !
