Ellie made us a delicious goat cheese frittata breakfast and we set off to Maine around 11am. We drove to Warren, lazed around me and Dave’s home, pet the kitty cats and drove the 10 minutes to The Waldoboro Inn to set up.
This gig was actually supposed to be in Albany, NY at a venue that was set to open in January, but they kept pushing the opening back until we realized about a week ago that the show was clearly not happening. Heading to Maine instead was more on our route anyway, so I reached out to The Waldoboro Inn about setting up a show and they were psyched.
The Waldoboro Inn is a beautiful old New England mansion that is currently being renovated into an inn. Alexa, the owner hosts various events at the inn and has a cute wine bar, but has never hosted music before. We brought the sound system, and set up in the living room area. There was a pasta “pop up” in the dining / bar area, so there were already quite a few people eating and playing pool and drinking wine when we arrived.
The crowd filtered in to the show area with wine in hand and bellies full of yummy home made pasta. There were friends, but also surprisingly a lot of people I had never seen before. People were standing on the stairs and in the entryways, up close and all around. Partway through the show, some people sat down up front close to us, and made the vibes even cozier. It was all so lovely - the only problem was that Molly was losing her voice rapidly so she decided not to sing her songs, which cut down our set significantly, and made me sad because I love her songs so much! But she was having such a good time she decided to risk it and sing one song with us. We sang it off mic - “Everybody Laughs” our hit!
We were fed delicious pasta afterward by our friends Sam and Chloe (the pasta pop-up peeps), and drank wine and hung out with the crowd. Molly sold one of her two spray painted “Sacramented” sweatshirts off her own back, I got some more pre-orders for my album, Eliza sold some vinyl, we all made new friends, and we packed up and went home. Alexa was so psyched about the turn out and the vibe that she now plans to host many more shows.
We had another really wonderful show - our best yet - with a vibrant crowd, once again surprised to find we were a whole band and not just individual sets. The band vibes have really come together, and it seems we get better every night, stage banter included. The songs flow together very nicely - even though I completely messed up the set lists this time and somehow made them all different from each other - We made it work! And had fun with it. I was happy my parents came to this show - they LOVED it and asked Molly and Eliza to be a part of our family.. LOL
We drove into Boston that evening to pick up Eliza’s car and then to Princeton, MA to Eliza’s aunt and uncles’ beautiful farm house. Slept a few hours, were fed bagels in the morning and got to hang with the horses, and now we are on the road to Philly to play our last show of this jaunt!
